Top 10 Benefits of Detoxing

Whether you’ve considered it for yourself or not, you’ll agree that, these days, everyone is talking about detoxing.  As a Health Coach, I encourage my clients to Detox with every season change and every time their body is giving them signs of imbalance or excess fatigue.

What does “Detox” mean?

Detox means taking certain measures, through diet and lifestyle, to increase toxins elimination from your body.

Why do we consider going on a “Detox” or “Cleanse”?

Our body has its own natural detox methods. The liver, sweat, and urine are all ways your body uses to release toxins. However, sometimes these vital organs work too hard and need a break: so they can repair, restore and work better. It’s like factory workers: if the workload is too high and they never get a break, they can get overworked and start making errors. However, if we give them some time off, they’ll freshen up, work better and they might even get to repair some parts of the factory that were deteriorating but never got any attention.

A detox diet is a great way to take the pressure off your organs, so you can keep them strong for the future.

How does a Detox work?

There are many ways in which we can help our body get rid of toxins. Depending on the results they want, some people choose a mild approach (see post “Detox 101”), and others go for juice or broth cleanses, or even fasting for a few days.

What are the Benefits of Detoxing?

No matter which detox method you choose, the benefits of detoxing can’t be denied. Let’s take a look at 10 ways a detox diet can benefit you.

1. Weight loss and management

Detoxing will help you lose weight, as it will help control the quality and quantity of food you eat (see post “Detox 101”).

One of the best things about a detox is that it doesn’t just help while you’re doing it, but it also helps you reset the bar and start fresh: with new, healthier habits.

2. Better functioning of internal organs

Detoxing purifies your body and facilitates toxin removal. Even if your liver, kidneys, and other organs are in healthy working order, your body may still be storing more toxins than you realize. A detox is a great way to get rid of those toxins and help your internal organs work more effectively.

3. Stronger immune system

Since detoxing helps eliminate toxins, it helps unclutter your body. You’ll also be able to absorb vitamins and minerals better, like vitamin C and zinc. This means your immune system will strengthened and focus on fighting true invaders.

4. More energy

Despite having some withdrawal symptoms at the beginning, you’ll quickly enjoy an energy boost. As your body cleanses and gets rid of blocking toxins, you’ll feel lighter and energized.

5. Higher performance

Once you’ve cleared toxins that block your energy and slow down your thinking process, you’ll enjoy better focus, sharper attention and higher performance.

6. Nicer breath

After you’ve passed a few days of bad breath due to toxins being released, you’ll experience better breath, as your digestive system will be able to function better.

7. Clearer skin

Same as with the breath: you might experience a breakout during the first few days, but your skin will be clearer and brighter afterwards. Your pores will unclog due to 4 factors: better nutrition (especially less processed food and sugars), more hydration (as you’ll be encouraged to drink much more), more sweat (as most detox plans include some sweat element) and better energy flow (less clutter).

8. Slowed signs of aging

Detoxing will help you get rid of toxins that contribute to skin and organ damage. This means you’ll be able to revert the effect of time, boost your energy and look and feel younger.

9. Shinier hair

Once you’ve passed the first few days (where your hair might fall out a bit more than usual), you’ll be amazed at how much healthier and shinier your hair looks.

10. Mindful approach to eating

Last but not least, detoxing will encourage you to be very mindful of the food you eat and how you do it. You’ll eat slower and savor each bite and sip more thoroughly.
